Is This The Good Life? Thoughts On Self Definition

I went for a job interview the other day. I didn’t get it. I’m not terribly sad about it, either. Maybe I should be, but it would have been part time and a thirty minute car journey there everyday, so it’s not a big loss.

But I guess I am having a little trouble defining myself without a paying job to my name. Sadly, being an author doesn’t yet count in that department. Hopefully, one day, it will.

I think it’s just that it feels odd not to be anticipating my next shift. It doesn’t help that I’m having to watch my savings, either. And I’m pretty sure that Mr Bear earns too much for me to qualify for job seeker’s allowance.

Not that previous experience has me thrilled by thoughts of reengaging in that… Unless I really have to.

And I’m not bored. I have so much to do to get things the way I want them in both the garden and the house. Frustratingly, however, I don’t really have the funds to achieve what I want whilst I have the time to do it. And I know that once I’m earning the funds to do it then I won’t have the time. It’s an abysmal dilemna.

Basic bedroom

The above is a picture of our bedroom. I desperately want to sort that first. The pink walls and the green velvet curtains aredriving me insane. I did buy a blind to put in the window so I could swapout the curtains for some pretty voilles, but we ran into trouble with the drilling of the window frame. Howard has a plan to rectify it, but we still haven’t put it into action.

We will do. Eventually.

Maybe we’ll even finally find a way to get rid of the millions of ant nests in the garden. Answers on a postcard please?

Still, some writing has been achieved. That’s something.

I even got some digital drawing done, partly inspired by the writing.

It’s not amazing. I was aiming for slightly more realistic, but I don’t think I’ve done too badly. Perhaps, some day, I’ll even show you guys the original sketch – only if you want to see it, of course.

Created & owned by Rebecca Clare Smith.

Anyway, wish me luck on the job front. I’m sure I’ll get plenty more writing done in the coming week!
