A Poem Of Sorts

#poetry

Today, I give you a poem that I wrote a few weeks back. It’s sort of a poem crossed with song lyrics, I guess.

I’ll be writing a new piece of flash fiction soon too – as promised. My time for writing is just fizzling away with the approach to Christmas. And I know I keep making that excuse but it really is true.

Empty Memes

We have grown lazy
And we have grown weak
You and your baby
Why don’t you speak?

It’s not like it’s hard
Or even much work
Losing the words
That send us berserk.

Just put in your hand
And pick out a phrase
Stand where you stand
Recall what is praise

It used to be a simple thing that we all knew how to do.
Who’s the one who tied your lips and forced this silent coo?
Where did all the worries go and what’s with all this fame?
Losing tea with sympathy, let’s bury all your shame.

All you ever need is love
Is such a famous phrase
But all you ever need is stuff
Is such a violent craze.

You and your baby
Why don’t you speak?
You and your baby
What makes you so meek?

It’s not like it’s hard
To answer with love
But everything’s marred
With all of this stuff

It used to be a simple thing that we all knew how to do.
Who’s the one who tied your lips and forced this silent coo?
Where did all the worries go and what’s with all this fame?
Losing tea with sympathy, let’s bury all your shame.

Living lives with empty memes, hiding all the rest,
Searching for a shell-like thing to call the very best

Living lives with empty memes, hiding all the rest,
Searching for a shell-like thing to call the very best

It used to be a simple thing that we all knew how to do.
Who’s the one who tied your lips and forced this silent coo?
Where did all the worries go and what’s with all this fame?
Losing tea with sympathy, let’s bury all your shame.

And now I shall run along and catch up with things so I can spend some free time scribbling.

Ciao!
